Can’t we eat Fuchka again?
Fuchka, chotpoti, zhalmuri (spicy puffed rice)? These are just the name of foods. But Bengali can’t avoid it and can’t help but eat these items. It’s taste has taken a corner in the Bengali’s life.
Actually they are not just foods. They are the king of street food in Bangladesh. Many of the Bengali and the foreigners have also tasted it in the capital. These street foods are also famous in village also. These foods are no. 1 choice for the food lovers. Besides these are not only familiar for taste, but also it helps to engage in meeting with friends, spending time with lovers, passing time with relatives etc. But now, all is closed. We can’t find that scene.
Today the corona virus has stopped the daily activities and natural life of everybody. Almost all the countries including Bangladesh are facing that problem. People have to stay like a bird in a cage in the house. Moreover, almost all the shops, markets, restaurants etc. are closed. Now we can’t find less than 3 or 4 people on roads. But as people are not found on roads, street food business is facing a great loss. Those whose earning source is only street food business, they are now begging from street to street. Also they are now searching succor from place to place. Recently I talked to a Futchka seller. He said that he would sell Futchka near Dhaka College and his monthly income was 6000 to 7000 taka (70 to 82 USD). He could run his family by that small income. Now he can’t sell the food because there is no customer on the road and search for reliefs here and there. Then he asked, ”When will I sell my Futchka?”.
So, during the corona pandemic, we should come forward to them. It’s time to provide economic helps for them. As they would provide us great service, we should help the poor fellows.
