Japan will make the 'largest investment' in Asia,in the economic zone of Bangladesh.
This was stated by Japanese Ambassador Ito Naoki during a meeting with Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi at the Secretariat on Thursday, according to a press release issued by the ministry. This investment will be the 'largest investment' in Asia, the ambassador said. The Commerce Minister said, “Bangladesh has a lot of opportunities to increase its exports to Japan. Bangladesh wants to take advantage of this opportunity. Bangladesh's exports to Japan will increase if more trade facilities are provided for the export of ready made garments. ”
Bangladesh will be upgraded from LDC to middle income country in 2024. The Commerce Minister then called for the continuation of Japan's ongoing trade facilities for five years. He said, “100 special economic zones are being set up in the country under the direction of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Japan will benefit if it invests in these. “Bangladesh has announced a package to provide attractive investment opportunities here. Bangladesh is a big market for cars made in Japan. It would be profitable if Japan set up a car factory in Bangladesh. ”
In response, the Japanese ambassador said, “Japan is thinking of setting up an automobile factory in Bangladesh. Japan will make a large investment in the two and a half thousand special economic zones of Bangladesh; this investment will be the largest in Asia.
Bangladesh exported goods worth 1385.64 million dollar to Japan in FY 2018-19 and 1200.8 million dollar in FY 2019-20.
On the other hand, it imported goods worth 1752.50 million dollar from Japan in the 2018-19 fiscal year and 1294.91 million dollar in the July-May period of the 2019-20 fiscal year.
